Brand identity and visual communications for the UNDP National Human Development Report (NHDR) 2023.

About the project

For the UNDP National Human Development Report (NHDR) 2023, I developed the report’s visual identity, beginning with three distinct logo concepts presented to the team. Once a direction was selected, I refined the brand colors to create a versatile palette that could support the report’s colorful data visualizations and infographics. I then extended the identity across digital communications, campaign materials, and promotional merchandise for awareness events, creating a cohesive visual system for the report.

Project Details

The UNDP National Human Development Report (NHDR) 2023 explores how digital transformation can support equitable human development in Pakistan. It examines the role of digital infrastructure, innovation, and technology across economic, political, social, and human development, with the aim of informing UNDP’s work in the digital space.

The visual identity needed to communicate this broad and evolving landscape while remaining flexible enough to work across the report’s data-rich infographics, digital communications, and promotional materials.

Process

01. Logo Design and Brand Identity

I began by developing three distinct logo concepts that explored different ways to represent digital transformation, innovation, and human development. I presented the concepts to the team, and once a design direction was selected, I refined the logo and established the brand color palette.

Because the report relied on colorful infographics and data visualizations, the palette needed to be both expressive and practical, offering enough flexibility to distinguish information while maintaining a consistent visual identity.

02. Digital Communications and Campaign Materials

With the core identity established, I applied the visual system to digital communications, illustrations, infographics, and social media campaign materials. These applications helped translate the report’s themes into engaging visual content for its preparation and awareness-building phase.

03. Promotional Merchandise

I extended the branding to merchandise for promotional and awareness events, designing items including a laptop sleeve, USB drive, pen, paperweight, and folder. Each item adapted the identity to a different format and material while maintaining consistency across the collection.
